Two founders, one conviction
Progressive Pharmacy was founded by Blair Winsor and Samir Patel — two pharmacists who believed an independent pharmacy could do more than a corporate chain would ever allow. They opened with a clear conviction still held today: that every patient in Burlington, throughout Ontario, and across Canada deserves a pharmacist who actually has time for them.
From the start, Blair prioritized compounding pharmacy, investing in training, equipment, and the kind of lab infrastructure that most existing pharmacies couldn’t retrofit into their space.
The result is a pharmacy that now operates like two pharmacies in one. One side serves the full scope of your everyday prescription needs with the kind of personal service that is becoming increasingly rare. The other is a specialty compounding operation that is the core of our business, delivering flexibility that you just cannot find anywhere else.

I’ve been going to Samir and Blair since 2003, my daughters and granddaughters grew up and went to them for as long as they could (until my daughters moved too far out of town).
When Samir changed locations, I did not hesitate to move with him, it wasn’t even a question. They are a very special team of people who have a great work ethic and culture. This shows in every interaction you have with them.

Our regular pharmacy (Costco) said they would take 5 days to compound a medication that our son needed, and nothing could be done to make it sooner.
When we went to Remedy they apologized saying it would be an hour, and sorry it would take so long!

Samir has the kind of reputation that takes decades to build. Patients consult him before their doctor. Families who’ve been with him for 20 years stay because of how he treats them. Not like a file number, but like someone he is personally responsible for. He remembers your history, anticipates your questions, and stays in the conversation.

Veasna Phan graduated from the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto in 2013. Two years later, he advanced into his first community pharmacy management role in 2015 in York Region where he practiced for over a decade. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he successfully lead one of the first pharmacy based mass vaccination efforts in Ontario.
In 2024, he joined the Progressive Pharmacy team, bringing in lessons learned from these diverse experiences.
He takes a special interest in serving ethnically diverse and underserved patient populations with compassion and cultural sensitivity. He also has a passion for teaching and mentorship activities spanning numerous students throughout his pharmacy career.
Adil Ikram
Consultant Pharmacist
Over 30 years of experience spanning biotech operations to clinical consulting, giving him a comprehensive patient-centred view of healthcare.
Throughout his career, Adil has found the greatest satisfaction in direct patient care, driven by a commitment to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
He leads consultations, medication reviews, and minor ailment prescribing, taking a holistic approach that considers diet, lifestyle, and long-term health—not just symptoms. His focus is on helping patients understand what’s right for them, not just what’s routinely prescribed.
His philosophy is simple: medication is a tool, not the destination—the priority should be to provide practical guidance so patients can make informed decisions with confidence, not simply manage symptoms
Archana Kumar
Compounding Manager
Archana brings 28 years of extensive expertise in pharmaceutical compounding, with a focus on customized hormone therapy, pediatric and veterinary formulations, and personalized patient care.
Archana Kumar serves as Manager of the Compounding Laboratory at Progressive Pharmacy. She is PCCA- and Medisca-certified, with advanced training in compounding and certification in Advanced Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy (ABHRT) for both women’s and men’s health. Her clinical focus is on personalized bio-identical hormone therapy tailored to each patient’s needs.
Her experience spans both human and veterinary compounding, including pediatric formulations and pain management—areas where precision, safety, and customization are essential.
Archana’s work is rooted in a strong commitment to individualized patient care, combining scientific rigour with a compassionate approach to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Built to exceed rigorous regulatory standards
Our compounding lab is certified for hazardous compound preparation, including hormone formulations. That certification requires infrastructure most pharmacies don’t have: negative airflow, external ventilation, and dedicated filtration. We intentionally built our labs with these factors in mind from the beginning, not as a retrofit.
Every pharmacist on our team is registered with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Our compounding program is supported by PCCA membership — the gold standard in compounding education, materials, and quality benchmarks — and we have many local partnerships with industry organizations such as MEDISCA, DeerFields Clinic, and more.
