While Ontario has expanded what pharmacists can do, we have expanded how that care is delivered. At Progressive Pharmacy, your clinical assessment doesn’t happen at the cash register. We have invested in private consultation rooms to ensure your health concerns are discussed in a confidential, professional setting, exactly like a doctor’s office.

Minor ailments
Ontario pharmacists are authorized to assess and prescribe for 28 conditions without a doctor’s visit. Walk in, get assessed, leave with a prescription, all in the same visit.
Vaccines & immunizations
Flu shots, shingles vaccines, travel immunizations, and more. Book online or walk in. Most vaccines are covered under Ontario’s publicly funded programs or through private insurance.
MedsCheck
In-depth review of all your medications and supplements with a licensed pharmacist. This free service is available in-pharmacy or at your home for patients who cannot travel.
Emergency prescription renewal
If you have run out of medication and cannot reach your doctor, we can assess your situation and renew as appropriate under the Ontario pharmacist prescribing authority.

One-on-one time with a pharmacist to talk through a diagnosis, a specific medication, a concern about a drug interaction, or anything health-related.

In 2023, Ontario expanded the scope of pharmacist practice to allow prescribing for minor ailments: conditions that are typically short-term, low-risk, and often managed with lab work or specialist involvement. There are currently 28 conditions on the list, and it continues to grow.

Minor ailment assessments are available to be booked or on a walk-in basis with no appointment required. For more in-depth services like MedsCheck, you can book your time online to pick a time that fits your schedule.
Private clinical assessment
You’ll meet with your pharmacist in one of our dedicated consultation rooms. We’ll review your symptoms, health history, and current medications in a completely private, professional setting.
Leave with your medication
If appropriate, your pharmacist will write the prescription, and you can choose to have it filled on-site, or you can leave with your medication in hand. We’ll personally follow up with you afterwards as well.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an appointment for walk-in services?
For most services, including minor ailments, vaccines, and general consultations, no appointment is needed. For MedsCheck medication reviews, booking ahead ensures we have enough time set aside for you. You can book online.
Is there a cost for these services?
Most services are free with a valid Ontario Health Card (OHIP), including minor ailment assessments. Vaccines may be covered through OHIP or your private insurance plan. If any service has a fee, we will let you know in advance.
What is the difference between a MedsCheck and a regular consultation?
A MedsCheck is a structured, government-funded program in which your pharmacist conducts a comprehensive review of your medications and supplements for up to 30 minutes. It results in a written summary you can take home and share with your doctor. A general consultation is a more flexible one-on-one conversation; shorter, unstructured, and available any time.
Can you renew a prescription that has run out?
Yes. Ontario pharmacists have the authority to renew or adapt prescriptions in circumstances where a patient has run out and cannot immediately reach their prescriber. We assess each situation individually and cannot guarantee this, however.
